Q: Do you come to me or do I have to come to your shop for service?
A: RVA Glass provides FREE mobile windshield repair service. RVA Glass is a mobile-only company that saves you money by coming to you at your home or office. By not having a physical shop, we are able to keep overhead as low as possible and thus pass on the savings to you by offering you the lowest rate possible for your windshield replacement!
Q: Do you work with insurance companies for auto glass replacements?
A: Yes! RVA Glass is authorized to work with most insurance companies. The customer is responsible for the insurance deductible and the insurance company is billed for any remaining balance. Some of the insurance companies we regularly deal with include State Farm Insurance, Geico, Nationwide, USAA, and Erie Insurance. If you have comprehensive/glass coverage on your vehicle insurance policy and your deductible is fairly low or covered. If you have liability-only however, the repair most likely is not covered by your vehicle’s insurer. Be sure to check with your insurance company to find out your deductible, as it may cheaper to pay out of pocket on certain occasions.
Q: How long does the windshield replacement process take?
A: Typically, the process takes from 1-1.5 hours. RVA Glass uses only premium urethane/glue, so the “Safe Drive Away Time” is only 30 minutes. This means the vehicle can be safely driven in 30 minutes after the installation is complete. We are happy to work with you and be flexible regarding your schedule to ensure that your car will be driveable whenever you need it.
Q: How long do I have to wait to wash my car at a car wash?
A:In general it is recommended that you wait at least 48 hours before washing your vehicle at a commercial high pressure car wash. The high pressure from automatic car washes can damage the seal and outer moldings before the urethane has a chance to sufficiently and safely cure. However, there is no reason to fear if it rains after your windshield replacement, as the moisture can actually help the curing process of the urethane sealant. It is also okay to hand wash your car with low pressure water around the windshield area.
Q: If I have a crack can my windshield be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
A: The standard rule of thumb is that anything smaller than a 25 cent quarter, however that is only if the windshield damage is not obstructing the drivers line of sight. If any glass has cracks or significant chips that do obstruct the driver’s ability to clearly see the road, or are larger than about 1” in length, the National Glass Association recommends that it be replaced as soon as possible. Our technician will fairly assess your windshield and let you know if a repair is possible.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The cost of windshield replacements can vary greatly from car to car. Newer cars with fancy technology such as sensors and cameras will be significantly more expensive to replace. Using OEM glass versus aftermarket glass will also play a role. Our highly trained and experienced technician will give you an honest assessment and a fair quote, while taking into account your car insurance and glass deductible.
Q: I just have a few small chips in my windshield. Can you repair them?
A: Yes! We offer chip repair for small chips (under the size of a 25 cent quarter). The best part is, often times they are FREE with your comprehinsive/glass insurance policy! Make sure to give us a call to inquire about the possibility of fixing chips versus doing a full windshield replacement.
Q: What about my inspection sticker and other windshield attachments?
A: We will transfer your inspection sticker to the new vehicle. During the windshield replacement, we will transfer all windshield attachments including your rear view mirror, any stickers if possible, EZ Pass transponders, etc.
Q: Do you provide any sort of guarantee?
A: Of course! We 100% guarantee quality workmanship to be free of water leaks on all of our urethane sealed auto glass and we repair or replace the leaking windshield at no cost to you.! We absolutely guarantee that if our chip repair fails you will be credited the cost of the repair when you purchase a new windshield with RVA Glass.
Q: Can you re-seal my leaking windshield?
A trained and qualified window repair technician can perform a number of leak tests. One of the first tests is the pressure test that involves pushing out on the windshield to check that the windshield is bonded all the way around the windshield. The auto glass tech will pressure test the windshield for proper adhesion paying particular notice to any movement.
While wearing gloves and safety glasses, the technician will gently push outward on the windshield to make certain there is no movement of the glass. An experienced auto glass technician should perform this test for safety reasons. Another reason being that if the glass is not bonded or “loose,” it can crack the windshield if pushed with too much force while performing the check.
If the technician sees and feels the windshield move at all while pressure checking the windshield then the glass has become separated from the glue or pinch weld. If the windshield has become un-bonded from glue to glass or it is “loose,” it needs to be removed to determine what caused the leak which could be from several different possibilities.
Another leak culprit that is often overlooked is a sunroof. If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, check the drain ports. A simple search engine search with the term “sunroof drain port clog” (or something similar) should reveal simple instruction to check the drain ports. If one port becomes clogged it can cause water to overflow the drip tray and simulate the same effects of a windshield leak.
Most reputable companies such as RVA Glass in the Richmond, Virginia area will remove and replace your glass as needed if they offer a life-time warranty against windshield leaks.
